Tarikh ibn Khaldun (Kitab al-'Ibar - The Muqaddima)

كتاب العبر أو تاريخ ابن خلدون (مقدمة ابن خلدون)

Kitab al-'Ibar or Tarikh ibn Khaldun is the complete works of the great theologian and philosopher Ibn Khaldun (808H). His work is preceded by an introduction - The Muqaddima - which is in itself a work apart and very important, which is still studied worldwide today, whether in Muslim countries than non-Muslim countries.

This is a book in which the author has compiled the knowledge of his predecessors, such as: Ibn Isaac, Al-Waqidi, Ibn Saad, at-Tabari and others. Ibn Khaldun wrote this book, refined it and made it easy for people to understand. He mentioned the history of humanity since creation to his era and included some of the sciences and wisdom. The book contains various benefits and diverse knowledge. The author did not rely on mere transfer, but included the rules of habit, policy rules, the nature of civilization and conditions in the human socialising.

The book is divided into four sections. The first section includes an Introduction to the virtue of history and then talked at length about the nature of civilization. The second section deals with the uprisings of the Kharijites and other factions. Then he started the third section with the rule of Asfar Ibn Shiruya over Gorgan and Ray regions. The fourth section began with the news of Abi Ishaq’s escape and Rabah’s pledge of allegiance to him and the subsequent events.
