Kitab as-Sama' by Ibn Tahir al-Qaysarani (507H)

Book by Ibn al-Qaisarani, historian and scholar of Hadith, on the subject of as-Sama', listening. While this may refer to listening to the Qur'an or other permissible things, its meaning has shifted over time to Sufi chanting with or without instruments, and other types of innovative or forbidden acts.

Ibn al-Qaysarani was a Dhahirite in Fiqh, and as such his position on Sama' is not necessarily that shared by his fellow Muhaddiths, including the opinion of the absolute permission of the Duff.

Hadifh ibn Mandah, one of his contemporaries, said of him, "He was one of the Huffadh, endowed with good Aqidah..."
