Masa’il al-Imam Ahmad (Riwayah Ismail Ibn Sa’id ash-Shalanji)

Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said: "And Masa’il Ismail Ibn Sa’id are the most significant issues narrated from Imam Ahmed"

He also said: "Ismail asked Imam Ahmad about some issues long after Ibn al-Hakam, because Ibn al-Hakam accompanied Ahmad in the past, and he died about twenty years before Imam Ahmad’s death. As for Ismail, he was an adherent of the School of Ahluar-Ra’y (interpretation based on rational discretion), then he adopted the School of the people of Hadith (the Traditionists-jurisprudents), and asked Imam Ahmad those issues late in his life, along with Sulayman Ibn Dawud Al-Hashimi and other Hadith scholars ..."

Abu Bakr al-Khallal said: "He has narrated many issues and I do not think that any companion of Abu Abdillah (i.e. Imam Ahmed) has narrated better or as many issues as him. I found no one who narrated them from him, except Ibrahim Ibn Ya’qoub Al-Juzjani, he has narrated them on the authority of Ismail Ibn Sa’id".
