Al-Kashshaf ‘an Haqaa’iq at-Tanzeel by Al-Zamakhshari

This is an interpretation of the Qur’an book which reveals the miraculous quality of the Qur’an in its rhetorical, stylistic and linguistic aspects. 

It is the most famous interpretation of the Mu'tazilites, in which the author demonstrated the aspects of the rhetorical miracle in the Noble Qur'an due to his familiarity with the Arabic language, his knowledge of their poetry, and his knowledge of the sciences of rhetoric, eloquence, grammar, and literature.

The book became popular among people of knowledge everywhere and everyone recognized its merit, abundance of knowledge and ingenuity.

“Al-Kashshaf” was the first interpretation to reveal the secret of the eloquence of the Qur’an, its miraculous aspects, and the accuracy of its meanings in its words, which had a great impact on the Arabs’ inability to oppose it or come up with anything similar.

Al-Zamakhshari listed a thousand verses on the Arabic language evidence, and focused on syntax and grammar, with a very brief reference to the jurisprudential issues in the verses of rulings.

Nonetheless, Al-Zamakhshari used his interpretation to spread the principles of the Mu'tazilah and support his doctrine. He tried his best to pretend discussing the linguistic meanings while in fact he was strongly supporting the Mu'tazilite beliefs with the power of argument and evidence.
