The Tafsir of Ibn Faras al-Andalusi is a Tafsir Fiqhi, that is, his role is to explain the verses on legal issues. It takes all the Qur'an but only stops on verses dealing with jurisprudential subjects (Fiqh) or verses abrogating and repealed.

This Tafsir, which is one of the most important bequeathed to us by the Malikite school, explains the verses according to the opinion of the scholars of science, he cites the points of convergence and divergence on the subjects of Fiqh, and the Sheikh does not make the Ta'assub his Madhhab, he sometimes gives his opinion which may be different from his school if the evidence lead him to a different opinion.
