Ali At-Tantawi, a master among writers and jurists, provides us with inventive glimpses into depicting Baghdad, its history and civilization, and tells us about some of his visits and observations there in this book. It shows the geography of Iraq, Baghdad, its neighbourhoods, and its history, King Ghazi, the generosity of the Iraqi people, their manners, arts, and food, the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, and the cities of Samarra, Kufa, and Basra.
The book combines an interesting narrative style with a wonderful and attractive description, and a lamentation on the condition of Baghdad, mentioning its current political situation. He told us about his love for King Ghazi, an Arab nationalist who tried to support the people against the British mandate, only to end up killed in a planned assassination.
Ali At-Tantawi, a writer and jurist from the Sham, gives us an account, imbued with the spirit and shadows of this worthy city: Baghdad.
