Ma Khadh al-'Ilm de l'Imam ibn Faris (395H)

It is a comprehensive book by the great Imam al-Hafidh Ibn Abdul Barr, stressing the meaning of knowledge, the merit of seeking it, and the praise of striving for it and taking care of it. It emphasises the corruption of speaking about the religion of Allah without knowledge, and the prohibition of judgement without proof. The author also spoke about the etiquette of acquiring knowledge and what the scholar and the learner must adhere to in order to achieve it, citing many prophetic Ahadiths and narrations on this subject.
This great book is an integrated educational curriculum for the education of the student and the scholar. It has also preserved a large collection of the sayings of the Salaf scholars in the virtues of knowledge, the etiquette of its students and methods of its acquisition.
